The Metropolitan Police Service required a high fidelity, immersive simulation training system which enables the monitoring of real-time leadership and decision making during critical incidents.

The HYDRA system that AVAT installed in their Marlowe House, in Sidcup is made up of several key areas and components based around a control room environment. This control room is the core of the system and used to manage the simulated critical incident training simulation by the distribution of multimedia to the other areas of the Hydra suite such as the three syndicate rooms. The control room has the ability to monitor and listen to the action in each of the syndicate rooms with the option to record the action on to either DVD’s or to solid state drive.
Each of the syndicate rooms are designed to simulate a real working environment for the trainee. These are made up with the necessary equipment to replicate a real environment. Each syndicate is connected to the control room where the subject matter experts can view the exercise via PTZ IP controlled cameras. The audio is also captured via ceiling microphones and transmitted to the control room for review.
This project was a complicated one which required a high level of project management. Ease of use and central control of all equipment were the key objectives and Senior Managers at Metropolitan Police were impressed with the professional quality of the installation and the way AVAT handled the management of the project and keeping the communication following between all parties at every stage.
